i thought doing journ & mass comm and its million and five academic essays would make a better writer.and it did! as my 2 distinctions so far have proven..
but i also think it's made me less of a 'creative writer'. it's sad. Reading some of my older posts (after JC, before today) i realise i had quite an interesting writing style.and i had so much fun writing like that! doesn't come as easily to me anymore.

I can see clearly now the rain is gone
I can see all obstacles in my way
Gone are the clouds that had me blind
It's gonna be a bright, bright, sun shiny day.
- 'I can see clearly now' by Johnny Nash.
So this song has always been really special to me. Not just because it reminds me of my Dad, but also because it's one of those happy, motivational songs that aren't cheesy. When I was younger I just liked the sound of it and singing along to it (with my Dad). But listening to it now, I suddenly realised the song could be all about...crying.
Life's shit. it gets overwhelming. you reach your breaking point and cry. and after that you feel better. Not that far off from the clear skies after the storm is it?
So in other words, tears are our body's version of rain. Sigh. I need to get out of this drought.

There's a time when the operation of the machine becomes so odious,
makes you so sick at heart,
that you can't take part;
you can't even passively take part.
And you've got to put your bodies upon the gears and upon the wheels, upon the levers,
upon all the apparatus, and you've got to make it stop.
And you've got to indicate to the people who run it, to the people who own it,
that unless you're free,
the machine will be prevented from working at all"
-Mario Savio (Berkeley Free Speech Movement, Dec 2 1964)

so.. my take on the new Linkin Park album, "A Thousand Suns"..
I love it.
Hahaha. honestly i wanna see the day (though i am quite scared to see it too) that i actually dislike a LP album.
Feels like i'm repeating myself when i say, its so bloomin' different from the first few! but seriously! comparing Hybrid Theory with A Thousand Suns is like comparing The Deftones with Muse. Completely different genres altogether. I know people used to say that all LP songs sound the same..( i'd only agree SLIGHTLY with this with regards to Hybrid Theory..but give them a break! it was their first album!) but this one is most def NOT the case. I dont know how they do it but each song is just so distinctive..not just from each other but in their own right.
I'm quite sick of commercial music to be honest with you.. i'm suddenly realising how similar all of them bloody are! sure they're catchy but... that's it. not much else. ok not all suck, i'll give you that..but i'm just saying that there's much better music out there than the shit they put on the radio (Gaga, Bieber, Katy Perry etc..) and so its worth going through the trouble to find them..
i guess that's why i love this album so much. they're becoming increasingly non-commercial and i just love it! i mean seriously...listen to songs like "Blackout" and "When they come for me" and tell me you've heard a song like that before.. definitely not!
One thing though...I listen to this album and i really wonder how they're gonna play live. most of it sounds so... electronically produced. even the beats. i have no idea if they were actually played by Rob ( the drummer) or done electronically. Oh well..i remember thinking something like that for the "Minutes to Midnight" album, but the concert totally proved me wrong. We'll see what my boys come up with..
Damn it! can't believe they're performing in Aus in dec and i wont be here!! )@($) UR)#($#)($*)#*$#*$)#($ i swear if they perform in singapore while i'm back in bris, i'll personally go to their manager and slap him. and then tell him i love the band and so would you please let me meet them. Thank you very much.
So with that said i'ma listen to 'Wretches and Kings' and get back to work. absolutely LOVE the 'human rights' speech in the beginning..so much emotion and impact, which LP successful added to with their heavy guitars and beats. good god how do they think of this shit?

its hard to see the good in someone's eyes
when they've got 'please hate me' written across their forehead.
but i guess..
it's not your fault i've got my eyes closed..

I love it when I listen to a song i've known for ages, and suddenly realise a line that was, effectively, meant for ME!
"This world can make you sick to your stomach/
So I / put on my headphones/
Listen to the Deftones"
Head For The Barricade - Limp Bizkit.
On a side note, I am very disgusted at my recent 'addiction' to the twilight novels. Ok fine not disgusted. but just..embarrassed. I try (unsuccessfully) to hide the book cover whenever i'm reading it in public.
Although I do have to admit, movie doesn't do it justice at all. okay. to be fair to the screenwriters (since I am now fully aware of how bloody difficult it is to convert a book into a movie) i think its just the lead actors. Robert Pattinson and whatsername? seriously? sooo different from the book.
I do somehow find myself relating to Bella a-lot though. The book Bella I mean. We're freakishly similar at times. Maybe that's why i'm so friggin addicted.
That's a nice excuse! Let's stick to that.
